~ Open Tuesday mornings 9 to 11 ~

We acknowledge the Quandamooka people, the traditional owners of the land on which our nursery is located. We pay respect to their culture and to Elders past and present.

The Nursery regularly donates plants to Bushcare, Coastcare and Indigiscapes for their revegetation and conservation work. We also sell plants to raise money and to help make our island an inviting place for native birds and animals.

Olive Walters Garden

The Nursery has named its display garden after Olive Walters. Olive has has been a source of inspiration, expert plant identification and propagation advice for nursery members over many years. Her love of Coochie's flora has inspired us all and we are very happy to dedicate our native garden to her.

The garden is adjacent to the Nursery and you can see many of our nursery plants growing in a peaceful garden setting.

 Thanks to the Men's Shed

Nursery President, Julie Vegter,  presented a certificate of appreciation to members of the Men's Shed at a recent morning tea, held in the Olive Walters garden adjacent to the Nursery. The Men's shed built the new Nursery fence and gate. The guys did a fabulous job and we are very pleased with the professional appearance of our community nursery.

Saving island species

As more land is cleared for housing, some of our native plants are disappearing. As far as we know, there are only two places left on the Island where Trachymene incisa (Native parsnip) still grows naturally. Nursery members collected seeds from one of these areas and have just potted up a number of trays of Trachymene. The long roots, which were a popular bush food, give the plant its common name.

It has pretty white flowers and makes an attractive garden plant. We should have some for sale at the Christmas Markets.

Birds, Bees and Butterflies

We have bundles of  bird, bee and butterfly attracting plants for sale.

$12 for four plants

 A few figures

Last year (2024)the Nursery donated $3723.00 worth of plants to community groups. Nursery members donated approximately $22, 933.00 worth  of volunteer hours on collecting seed and cuttings, propagating, working on our display garden, selling our plants at the markets and opshop, administration and collecting essential supplies from the mainland.
